THE MESSYVERSE

A dynamic festival about self-expression, representation and identity within new digital worlds.
THE MESSYVERSE opens with a two-day festival on 2 + 3 September. Opening during Amsterdam Fashion Week, this festival and fashion show showcases the creativity and imagination of designers and artists from around the globe.
Running through 6 October, THE MESSYVERSE Exhibition invites you into imaginative, speculative futures for our most intimate human moments, while the ongoing program of talks and performances inspires new questions and unpacks ethical considerations as we look forward.
EXPLORE and CELEBRATE the vast horizon of shared, persistent worlds.

THE MESSYVERSE consists of three parts. By buying a ticket you can experience the first fully digital fashion show FUTURE FRONT ROW, the EXHIBITION and attend the PROGRAMS on the day you purchase a ticket for.

FUTURE FRONT ROW is a never-before-seen digital fashion show featuring entirely virtual models.
Discover a range of fashion designers and artists from around the world who are embracing, multiplying and celebrating new possibilities for self-expression and authenticity.

If the Metaverse could one day be an extension of reality, how would it shape our lives? What are the inherent power structures and historical contexts that it builds upon? Is technology truly a neutral tool, or is that only part of the story?
Whereas FUTURE FRONT ROW and the Exhibition stimulate the imagination, this comprehensive program of talks and performances allows a deeper dive into what we can learn from past activism, and why engaging with these ethical dilemmas is urgent today.

ABOUT THE MESSYVERSE

As we continue to embark on new virtual adventures in exciting digital worlds, we create digital representations of people – called avatars – to socialize and play together, meet at the office, go to concerts and even try on clothes.
The promise of these new digital worlds is based on boundless creativity and inclusive spaces, inviting new forms of self-expression and diversity through means of decentralized power. However, the development of these technologies, such as the Metaverse, currently lies in the hands of an elite and homogenous group.
How do we ensure that we, as well as future generations, can move freely and safely in an inclusive virtual society? This concerns not only the happy few, but all of us. As the realms such as the Metaverse grow, it is increasingly important to ensure that it is a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of culture or background – and that opportunities for self-expression are not left solely in the hands of tech giants.
Through THE MESSYVERSE festival and its accompanying art exhibition and context program, we aim to make participation in these technological developments more inclusive, accessible and inviting.
