Storytelling Cypher
Felix Friday

In their Storytelling Cypher, Safi Graauw (film director & earth scientist) and Dymphie Braun (programme maker) invite you into a space where rhythm, imagination, and connection come together.
Somewhere along the way, we lost something — the deep connection we once had with the world around us. But storytelling can help us find our way back. Because storytellers hold a powerful key to engaging people with big things. Environmentalism and climate change, for example — not in a dry, distant way, but in ways that are personal, emotional, and real. This isn’t about statistics. It’s about moments, places you love, people you care about, and things that move you.
The cypher as a breathing space
In their Storytelling Cypher, Safi Graauw (film director & earth scientist) and Dymphie Braun (programme maker) invite you into a space where rhythm, imagination, and connection come together. With a live drummer setting the beat, the cypher becomes a living, breathing space, where simple interactions can hold space for complex stories. Stories of rage, of joy, of confusion, of hope. The rhythm will guide us — and from there, we flow. Listening, sharing, creating, reflecting. Together.
Safi and Dymphie met through a shared curiosity and quickly recognised something in each other: good vibes, a drive to do good, and a belief that change begins with the stories we tell and the people we share them with. Both work at the crossroads of creativity and social impact. After experimenting with a first collab at the What Design Can Do Festival, the Storytelling Cypher sprung from that spark as a living, evolving format that invites rhythm, imagination, and community into the mix.

Dymphie Braun – programme maker
An experienced programme maker, facilitator, and strategist driven by the principles of equality and inclusion. Her mission is to promote creativity as a tool for social justice. She organises and hosts programmes, events, and talk shows about art, design, and (digital) storytelling – sparking cultural conversations for the community.

Safi Graauw – film maker
believes film was never meant to be mediocre, or a copy-paste. It should document the exceptional, introduce new perspectives — and, if it’s lucky, make a change along the way. With a background in Earth Sciences and led by his beliefs, Safi sees himself as a vehicle for stories that add something meaningful to the world. The message leads — form follows.
