15 september op het grote scherm: de documentaire Sisters on track, de eerste Netflix Original door een Nederlandse filmmaker: Corinne van de Borch. Zij schetste een intiem portret van drie vastberaden zusjes in Brooklyn die tegen alle verwachtingen in presteren op de atletiekbaan. Na de film screening is er een Q&A met filmmaker Corinne van de Borch als hologram, live vanuit New York.
DE FILM
Sisters on Track is een coming of age-verhaal dat de drie Sheppard-zussen Tai (12), Rainn (11) en Brooke (10) volgt uit de mediastorm van 2016 die hen in de nationale schijnwerpers stuwt, wanneer alle drie worden gekozen om de Sports Illustrated Kids of the Year, in hun laatste jaren van Junior High. De film biedt een zeldzaam intiem kijkje in de reis van een hechte familie uit Brooklyn waarin ze herstellen van trauma’s en tragedie, weg van hun leven in een opvangcentrum. Onder leiding van coach Jean Bell en haar Jeuness Track Club, die hen inspireert om grenzen te verleggen, groot te dromen en te streven naar hoger onderwijs, vinden de meisjes hun stem als atleten en als jonge volwassenen. Een doucmentaire die de band tussen een familie en een hele gemeenschap van vrouwen volgt, waarbij het stokje van self empowerment door atletiek wordt doorgegeven, van generatie op generatie van hoopvolle jonge meisjes.
De film is Engels gesproken met Nederlandse ondertiteling.
Q&A
Na de film screening is er een Q&A met filmmaker Corinne van de Borch als hologram, live vanuit New York.
Op het snijvlak van technologie en cultuur ontwikkelde Felix Meritis een systeem waarmee via een hologram mensen digitaal te zien en horen zijn. Deze avond heeft de primeur! Het systeem wordt voor het eerst op ons podium gebruikt!
Het nagesprek zal volledig in het Engels worden gehouden en worden gemodereerd door Rocky Hehakaija (directeur Favela Street).

Roxanne ‘Rocky’ Hehakaija
De Nederlandse Roxanne Hehakaija, beter bekend als Rocky, is directeur van Stichting Favela Street. Ze is een bekend gezicht in de internationale straatvoetbalwereld.
Met Favela Street creëerde ze een persoonlijk ontwikkelingsprogramma dat jongeren opleidt tot rolmodellen door middel van straatvoetbal. Gebaseerd op de filosofie: “als je het beste uit jezelf haalt, kun je een positief verschil maken in je gemeenschap.”

On September 15th, we are screening Sisters on track, the first Netflix Original by a Dutch documentary maker: Corinne van de Borch. She paints an intimate portrait of girlhood following three determined sisters in Brooklyn as they race against all odds on a journey toward hope, belonging and a brighter future. Afterwards, there will be a Q&A with Van de Borch and a hologram of one of the lead characters from the movie, live from New York.
THE FILM
Sisters on Track is a coming of age story following the three Sheppard sisters, Tai (12), Rainn (11) and Brooke (10) from the 2016 media storm that propels them into the national spotlight, when all three are chosen to be the Sports Illustrated Kids of the Year, into their final years of Junior High. The film offers a rare intimate glimpse into a tight-knit Brooklyn family’s journey to recover from trauma and tragedy moving away from their life in a shelter. Guided by coach Jean Bell and her Jeuness Track Club, who inspires them to beat the odds, dream big and aim for higher education, the girls are finding their voices as athletes and as young adults. At the heart of the story is the bond between a family and a whole community of women, passing the baton of self-empowerment through track and field, from generation to generation of hopeful young girls.
The screening is in English with Dutch subtitles.
Q&A
After the screening, there will be a Q&A with film maker Corinne van de Borch and one of the lead characters from the movie. Corinne will be present in Felix Meritis and the lead characters will appear through a hologram live from New York City.
Felix Meritis developed a system that allows people to be seen and heard digitally through a hologram. This evening is a first! The hologram system will be first presented and used on stage at Felix Meritis!
The after talk is fully English spoken and moderated by Rocky Hehakaija (director Favela Street).

The Dutch Roxanne Hehakaija, better known as Rocky, is the director of the Favela Street Foundation. She is a familiar face in the international street football world.
With Favela Street she created a personal development program that trains young people to become role models through street football. Based on the philosophy: “if you get the best out of yourself, you can make a positive difference in your community.”
