Living Room Session
Fragmented Resonance
Living Room Session is a curatorial framework and recurring live program set in a metaphorical living room where different artistic practices meet. Curated and hosted by Shaquille Shaniqua Joy, each edition brings together artists who explore a shared subject through their own medium.
This edition centers on Fragmented Resonance, a subject that considers how understanding emerges through fragments, echoes, and relationships rather than fixed meanings. Memories, sounds, objects, movements, and encounters carry traces that repeat and reverberate across time, creating connections between places, histories, and lived experiences. Like an echo, resonance is never an exact repetition, it shifts, returns, and transforms. Meaning lies not in certainty but in what continues to resonate between people, bodies, and places.
Join us on October 2 for an evening with a reading by interdisciplinary artist and poet(ic learner) senakirfa A. alongside a meditative soundscape by storyteller and sound artist Marine Magdalene, and the screening of two short films by artist and photographer Bernice Mulenga, followed by a conversation with Shaquille Shainqua Joy exploring the music and sounds that influence their practice.

BERNICE MULENGA
Bernice Mulenga (b. 1996) is a British-Congolese artist and photographer based in London. Mulenga’s practice seeks to archive, document and interrogate the world around them, primarily focusing on themselves, Black queer global and local communities, and the experiences found within them. Their work centres on bonds, kinship and the search for intimacy. This is exemplified in their ongoing photo series #friendsonfilm, a living archive that has been growing since 2015 and continues to evolve with time.
Mulenga’s recent exhibitions include their first institutional solo show, LMK WHEN U REACH at Auto Italia, London (2025); Malembe, Malembe, Goswell Road, Paris (2025); Sending My Love To You, Baby, Haricot Gallery, London (2024); Conversations, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (2024); Pictures of Us, Gathering, London; The Makings of You, Modern Art Oxford (Photo Oxford); and Beautiful Experiments at Photo50 London Art Fair (all 2023), among many others. Most recently, Mulenga was awarded the Circa Prize 2024, and their film Let’s Move On was featured on Piccadilly Lights in London and other international screens throughout September 2024.
SENAKIRFA A.
senakirfa A. is an Amsterdam-based interdisciplinary artist and poet(ic learner), her work across installation, sculpture, writing, sound, and zine-making, is an extension of her poetry practice, through which she centers what she terms poetic in(ter)ventions: an amalgam signifying what African-Diasporic worldmaking ushers in. A. deeply fosters the thinking that she has been able to share, and simultaneously the continuous collaborative making that unfolds together with Bobbie Müller, Jung Yeon Kim, Phantom Wizard, and S*an D. Henry-Smith.
For the Living Room Session, senakirfa A. will read and work with sound informed by her study of the traditionally female-led Nnwonkoro song tradition of the Ashanti people in Ghana.
MARINE MAGDALENE
Marine is a storyteller and sound artist whose work explores how sound can create space for remembrance, healing, and (re)connection with diasporic histories while opening pathways toward new cultural futures and practices. Guided by her Afro and Caribbean heritage, she creates meditative sonic landscapes that invite listeners to reflect and feel inward.
SHAQUILLE SHANIQUA JOY
Shaquille Shaniqua Joy is a moderator and cultural curator whose practice centers on storytelling. Working across conversations, programs, and exhibitions, Shaquille explores how subjectivity and lived experience can serve as vital forms of knowledge. Their curatorial and conversational practice emphasizes exchange over extraction: as a moderator, they prioritize conversations rather than interviews, cultivating environments where complexity, nuance, and vulnerability can be explored. Through this approach, Shaquille collaborates with cultural institutions, museums, platforms, and brands to create encounters where listening, resonance, and embodied presence become central methods of inquiry, including formats such as Living Room Session.
